ProjectJailhouse Art Demo was a success, by the way. The educational instructor at the jail even asked me for photos of me working and presenting afterwards to put in the county newsletter. It was an awesome experience, with a great bunch of animated and friendly bunch of inmates. I guess I can officially say that I’m abadass now since I gave an art lecture at a jail 😛
I showed them a slideshow of images of my work, explained some basic history about ceramics, talked about firing technology a bit, touched on the subjects of clay and glaze calculation, and explained the basic making methods. I thought it went really well. They were so curious, they just kept asking questions and I had fun answering them. The lecture ended up lasting almost an hour longer than I had planned for, but I wasn’t uncomfortable the whole time. Afterwards, one of the inmates even came up to me and told me how composed and relaxed I was while I was talking. I guess I didn’t do too bad for my first lecture, especially considering my stage fright that usually gets me.
